The Tony Perkins Show

Welcome to the 2015 Christmas episode of "The Tony Perkins Show Featuring Gary Stein"!  Our SPECIAL GUEST for this episode is the one, the only....SANTA CLAUS!!! Yes, Santa takes time out of his busy schedule to talk about the true meaning of Christmas. Now, we have to warn you: Tony and Gary seem to have gotten Santa at a fairly bad time, after Santa seemingly had a rough night.  So he's not exactly in a JOLLY mood. But we're airing the interview anyway. JUST MAKE SURE NO CHILDREN HEAR IT!!!

Also:  Tony, Gary and Rob exchange gifts; Gary talks about the time he met "Godfather of Soul" James Brown; and the guys play a game of "Jeopardy", but "Alex Trebek" is in just about the worst mood ever!

What's WRONG with these people?! Merry Christmas!

This special edition of #TPGS features an interview with the founder of Motown Records, Berry Gordy, Jr.!  It is impossible to overstate the profound impact Gordy and Motown Records had on popular culture.  Without Gordy there would be no Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, no Diana Ross and the Supremes, no Temptations, no Four Tops, no Stevie Wonder.  On the occasion of the opening of the hit Broadway musical MOTOWN: The Musical in Washington, D.C., Gordy sits down, along with the show’s director, Charles Randolph Wright, to talk about what it all means.

PLUS, Gary resurrects one of the most popular segments he and Tony used to do on Good Morning America, introducing to you, just in time for Christmas, some of the DUMBEST gift ideas imaginable!  They are hysterical!  (And, Tony has another gift idea that he thinks you’ll really like!)

The interview with Berry Gordy, Jr. and Charles Randolph Wright appears courtesy of Fox 5 in Washington, D.C.

We can honestly say THIS may be the most uproarious episode of our show yet!!!  For one thing, there is DRINKING involved!  Tony's good friend and former college roommate, Rob Garretson, is the author of the wine blog www.winefortherestofus.com. He plays a wine-tasting game with the guys--who ARE NOT DRINKERS--to see how developed their palettes are.  Needless to say, the more they drink, the wilder (and sillier) this show gets!

But that's not all!  Rob Ford's mother, Anita, joins us LIVE IN STUDIO for this show! Tony and Gary try to get to the root of why Rob is...well...Rob.  And that gets pretty funny, too.  (Plus, Anita joins in on the wine game!)

Also: a gift from Gary to Tony, and another Rob Ford music pick.  This episode is SPECTACULAR!  (Oh...and be sure to listen to the end for maximum "Robness".)

On this show, Gary tells an AMAZING story about how he was unexpectedly called into duty recently during an emergency, and how he reacted has Tony calling him a “hero”.  Then, Tony tells a story and shows how he himself….is….well….only heroish.

Also on this episode:  Musician, record producer, and all-around renaissance man MARK HUDSON!  Mark has written for and produced some of the greats, including Aerosmith (he co-wrote their hit “Livin’ on the Edge”), Cher, Ozzy Osbourne, and Ringo Starr!  Plus….he was one of The Hudson Brothers, stars of mid-70s TV and radio (“So You Are a Star”)!  Mark is a great guy and is very, very funny.

Plus:  Another musical selection from Rob Ford; a very nice encounter with Carol Burnett; and a segment called “Why Are People Hatin’ on Phil Collins So Much?”

It’s ANOTHER fun-filled episode!

("Pillow Talk with Angela" can be heard Fridays at midnight on Washington D.C.'s 96.3 WHUR-FM, and Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at midnight (that's EARLY Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) on Sirius/XM Channel 141, "HUR Voices".)

Please don't misread that title.  Rob Ford's Washington Post "Date Lab" date was NOT with CNN's Bill Weir!  However, this episode features BOTH!  First:  Rob fills us in on his big "Date Lab" night out with the lovely "Megan".  Then, Gary and Tony talk to their friend, journalist Bill Weir, about his new CNN series "The Wonder List".  Also, Tony tries to stump Gary with a game of Movie Trivia, AND Tony announces his decision about his cell phone situation.  Stop the presses!

(WATCH Rob and Megan talk about their date at http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/magazine/foxs-tony-perkins-fretted-about-date-lab-dead-ends-so-we-matched-his-producer/2015/02/05/c8307afc-a7e3-11e4-a2b2-776095f393b2_story.html  READ about the date in the Feb. 22, 2015 edition of "The Washington Post Magazine")

This episode contains what may be the most unbelievable coincidence EVER.  You'll hear it when Gary and Tony call a.....well, you'll just have to listen to it!  Also, the guys make a pitch to appear in the soon-to-be-shot cheesy SyFy network movie, "Sharknado 3"; Gary has an encounter with a drag queen (!); Tony talks about what it was like to perform in concert with "Donnie and the Revolution"; Gary presents "The 5 Words"; and music from Aretha Franklin.  Plus, a bonus for the die hards!

In this episode, Tony and Gary showcase two of their favorite celebrity interviews. First, Tony and Gary talk to David Cassidy in a surprisingly candid and emotional conversation. David opens up about fame and family (including his complicated relationship with his father, actor Jack Cassidy) and his struggle with alcoholism. David was once the biggest teen idol in the world as Keith Partridge on The Partridge Family, and still performs today to sell-out crowds of devoted fans.

Next, Tony and Gary have a hysterical chat with Emmy Award winner, Tom Bergeron, host of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and America’s Funniest Home Videos! Tom gives the hilariously unexpected inside scoop on those shows plus his time at Hollywood Squares, Good Morning America, FX’s Breakfast Time, and more!

The guys discuss the "Age of the Belfie", and Tony, unfortunately, takes one of his own.  Also: Gary tells about a star-studded party he attended when he was fifteen (!), with special guest ROBB SPEWAK providing the much-needed play-by-play!  Plus: Quirky News, urinal cakes, a listener-suggested "What Were They Thinking?" starring Pat Boone, AND more amazing music from Mike Massé!

Happy New Year!  Tony and Gary kick off 2015 with a free-wheeling, surprising interview with comedian and Saturday Night Live vet Joe Piscopo!  Wait until you hear Joe talk, openly and hilariously, about his personal life!  Also, Gary receives a WONDERFUL gift from Joe Palka--actor, radio host, and husband of Episode #23 guest, Sue Palka--so the guys get him on the phone to thank him (and they talk to Sue again, too)!  Plus: Woody Guthrie's New Year's Resolutions.  Yes, you read that right!
